When is Micro Bonding Right for Your Client?
Micro Bonding is the revolutionary extension technique that allows you to install custom-sized Fusion extensions in the crown and hairline area of your client’s head. Born out of the need to address problems such as thinning, balding, and installations on short hair, Micro Bonding has quickly become one of our most remarkable (and most inconspicuous!) methods for achieving volume. Need help figuring out if your client is a good candidate for this tailored approach? Check out these tell-tale signs, and learn more about Micro Bonding itself at our Everything But Length portal!
Your client is a good Micro Bonding candidate if…
Their hair is too short for standard installations
Whether your client has a short bob hairdo or uneven length between the back and sides of the head, Micro Bonding can help you to install on even the shortest hair strands. We used to have to turn down clients whose longest layers fell above their occipital bone, or leave the thinner/finer areas out of our work. Now, stylists can accept clients of all different lengths and hair conditions. Remember, though: even with Micro Bonding, we still recommend that you no more than double the client’s existing length to ensure a natural end result.
Their hair is thinning in certain areas
Perhaps length isn’t part of the equation, and your client simply wants to add volume to thin or scraggly ends. Micro Bonds are perfect for accomplishing this! Similarly, if your client is experiencing thinning due to aging, illness, stress, or a major life event (and their scalp is still healthy enough to tolerate hair extensions), you can also correct the problem with Micro Bonding. Focus your Micro Bonds in the areas where thinning is evident, and make sure that you follow the 1:1 rule (don’t ever install more hair than the hair section can comfortably carry!).
Their hair is generally thin and/or fine
If your client has always had particularly thin or fine hair, or their hair is getting generally sparser over time, consider combining Micro Bonding with other thin/fine-hair-friendly methods, like Single Sided Tape-In installations. We find that Tape-Ins and Single Sided Tape are great for establishing a strong (and quick) base, and that Micro Bonding is ideal for finishing up the sides, front, and top-most layers.
There are bald spots forming on their head
Balding is a tricky business, especially when hair extensions are involved. Install Micro Bonded Fusion extensions strategically in the hair above or around the bald spot, then part and style the hair so that these extensions cover that area. Don’t ever resort to a blanket comb-over when you can achieve something much more delicate!
Their desired style demands intricacy, or installation on short, fine layers
Maybe your client is after a new look, rather than a specific intervention. If their goal is to achieve something somewhat intricate, then Micro Bonding can help. It’s the one technique best suited to detailed work, and it can also enable customization in the shorter, finer layers of the client’s ‘do.
They want expertly-placed, fine highlights
Beyond the realm of length, volume, and style, Micro Bonds can also be applied towards color work, providing clients with a way to achieve ultra-natural and precise highlights, lowlights, and accent streaks. Give your client a seamless sun-kissed look by adding some well-placed, custom Micro Bonds to the finer hair around their face, or mastercraft an ombre by installing small strands in varied gradations and shades. The opportunities are endless.
They favor highly inconspicuous bonds
If nothing else, your client may be a good Micro Bonding candidate simply because they’re hyper-meticulous, or obsessed with unnoticeable bonds. As far as camouflaging your extensions goes, you can’t get much better than Micro Bonds—they’ve taken our most natural-looking and durable method and elevated it to the point where you can’t see the connections anymore (even when they’re on the top-most layer of hair!). So long as you have the patience (and your client has the money), you could complete a full-head installation using Micro Bonds alone!
Kick your hair extension services into overdrive by appealing to a larger audience. Thanks to Micro Bonds, every client can be a hair extension client.
